Handsome, despite the slight tiredness around his smile and the bloodstained blindfold that covers his eyes. AURAL. Xiao Xingchen's voice matches his appearance— calm, gentle, and firm, though he's able to raise it when the occasion arises. OLFACTORY. Those with a sharp nose can detect the faintest, fading scent of something cool and crisp, like the first snowfall of winter. DEMEANOR. Xingchen carries himself with the grace and dignity of the model cultivator that he is. His steps are light enough to walk on clouds.

HISTORY As a very young child, an orphaned Xiao Xingchen was taken in by the legendary cultivator and healer, Baoshan Sanren. Raised as part of her sect and secluded from the rest of the world, he learned cultivation on the great sage's celestial mountain. As Xiao Xingchen grew older, he decided that his abilities would be best put to use in service of those who needed his help. Around the age of seventeen, he ventured out into the wider world armed with this determination, despite the knowledge that those who leave the seclusion of Baoshan Sanren’s mountain may never return. He befriended a fellow cultivator named Song Lan (courtesy name: Zichen) shortly after. Their similar ideals led to the two of them becoming cultivation partners, and they shared a dream of creating their own sect based on these ideals rather than the more traditional bloodline heritage. Driven by this dream, and because of their exceptional skills and willingness to come to anyone’s aid, they quickly rose in fame in the cultivation world. Some time during their first year together, Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen encountered another young cultivator, Xue Yang of the Lanling Jin clan. This would not be the last time. After investigating the subsequent violent massacre of the Chang clan, Xiao Xingchen concluded that the murderer was none other than Xue Yang. A relentless chase ensued until Xiao Xingchen finally managed to apprehend him. He brought Xue Yang back to the Lanling Jin, insistently demanding punishment equal to Xue Yang’s crimes. Unbeknownst to the general public, the current leader of the Lanling Jin had long sought after the forbidden power of demonic cultivation, which Xue Yang had an aptitude for— the very reason why he was even taken under the clan's wing. Xue Yang’s death sentence was quickly reduced to life imprisonment, and those who spoke against him were pressured into recanting their testimonies. Xue Yang was eventually freed. This sullying of Xiao Xingchen's reputation was not enough Xue Yang. Well aware of Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan’s close relationship, he wasted no time in enacting his true revenge upon Xiao Xingchen by slaughtering everyone from Song Lan’s home temple and blinding Song Lan himself, this time fleeing before Xiao Xingchen could catch him. In desperation, Xiao Xingchen broke his sacred vow and brought Song Lan back to Baoshan Sanren’s mountain, pleading with her to heal him. She agreed to replace Song Lan’s ruined eyes with Xiao Xingchen’s own; however, Song Lan quickly fell into a fit of grief upon regaining consciousness, lashing out at Xiao Xingchen and telling him that he wanted nothing more to do with him. Understanding Song Lan’s anguish and burdened by guilt, Xiao Xingchen acquiesced. And so, only a little more than a year after he first left, he found himself once again wandering down the mountain to try and find his way in the wider world— still intent on fulfilling his duty to others, but now brokenhearted, blind, and alone.

PERMISSIONS IN CHARACTER Physical contact/violence Xiao Xingchen will not shy away from physical affection, but will rarely initiate it. Starting a fight with him is fine, but not something he will appreciate unless in the context of exercise or friendly sparring. Although blind, he is not easy to sneak up on, as his other senses are heightened from training. (Extreme violence such as torture and death must be run by the player first.) Mental contact Years of cultivation have given Xiao Xingchen a formidable mental fortitude. Attempts at psychic attacks/infiltration/control may or may not be successful depending on the skill of the attacker and Xiao Xingchen's current state of mind. Romantic relationships He has a deep scar here, but would be open to new relationships if they happen in a gradual, natural manner. Any attempts at blatant flirtation will be gently dismissed until Xiao Xingchen feels comfortable with that person. ABILITIES CULTIVATION Xiao Xingchen is a cultivator— a person who has attained physical, mental, and spiritual strength by “cultivating” a golden core within themselves that stores energy they harness through meditation and training. He can channel this stored energy outwards for any physical/magical attacks and defense, but also inwards, allowing himself to heal relatively quickly (but not instantly) from injuries, have extremely keen senses and strength of mind, survive long periods of time without food or sleep, and maintain a youthful body as he ages. WEAPONRY / MARTIAL PROWESS Shuanghua (“frost flower”) is the name of Xiao Xingchen’s sword. It is well-known in the cultivation world for its considerable spiritual power; besides allowing its master to fly upon it like any other cultivator’s blade, Shuanghua possesses the ability to detect energy emanating from corpses, as well as the Frost Fall technique that can freeze lesser opponents and generate ice in any environment. Anything afflicted by Frost Fall will be marked with a bloom of frost that looks almost like a flower. Xiao Xingchen can also manipulate Shuanghua using a spiritual link, making him capable of controlling it without having to physically wield it, though he prefers the latter. Xiao Xingchen also carries a fuchen, or horsetail whisk. This is an unorthodox weapon meant to symbolize his values of not causing harm to the living, but is also handy for disarming opponents, blocking attacks, quick strikes, and aiming for pressure points without being lethal. Because of the considerable amount of training he’s undergone since he was a child, Xiao Xingchen is strong, fast, and an expert in his craft. Even as a pacifist first and foremost, he's still able to take down a variety of foes with ease. He's especially good at fighting the undead. MISCELLANEOUS Besides his weapons, Xiao Xingchen carries the typical inventory of a cultivator: a qiankun pouch that is magically modified to be able to fit a number of larger items, a spirit-trapping bag that can hold matter such as spirits and souls, and medicine that can help speed up healing processes.
